Abstract
The genetic structure of human population consists of many polymorphic characters, and every race has its own genetic structre. For these respects, many workers have been studied racial characteristics in terms of genetic structure of the racial population.
Even though the genic variation on about 15 enzymatic proteins such as LDH, MDH, etc., in Korean population have studied, the data is not enough to evaluate the genetic characteristics of Korean population.
In the present study the genetic structure of Esterase (ESA), EsteraseD (ESD) and s-Adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase (SAHH) in hemolysates of 1,202 individuals living at 11 localities in main land and Cheju island have studied by the horizontal starch gel electrophoretic technique .
No electrophoretic variant was found at the ESA1 locus but two alleles, ESD*1 and ESD*2, were found at the ESD locus with the frequencies of 0.639 and 0.361. The average heterozygosity at ESD locus was 0.437. Two alleles, SATHH*l and SAHH*2, were also found at SATTH locus with the frequencies of 0.956 and 0.044. The average heterozygosity at SAHH locus was 0.087.
